With Azure Local (formerly Azure Stack HCI), we’ve been able to make our environment significantly more reliable and resilient!
IT provider XCES has implemented a fully Azure Arc-enabled IT infrastructure for Limburg-based tile manufacturer Koninklijke Mosa. With Azure Stack HCI, Mosa now has access to a future-proof and reliable cloud environment that brings all the benefits of the cloud to their on-premises setup.
In the exploratory phase leading up to the implementation, Mosa and XCES concluded that Azure Stack HCI was the right solution for the company. With XCES, Mosa had a single, dedicated point of contact to ensure the implementation was properly managed, using an Integrated Azure Stack HCI solution from Microsoft and DataON.
On-prem with the benefits of the cloud
“We had to keep our IT environment running on-premises for the next five years,” explains Lenny Omloo, IT specialist at Mosa. “With Azure Stack HCI, we found the ideal hybrid solution that allows us to make even better use of our Microsoft investments.” Koninklijke Mosa and XCES jointly designed the new environment, and when it came time to migrate, there was hardly any downtime in the production environment: the hardware was installed and configured in just three days. XCES completed the migration of 35 VMs in just 30 minutes per device.

A future-ready IT environment
André van den Berg, Managing Director of XCES, is very pleased with the results of the implementation: “Azure Stack HCI is the perfect solution for companies like Koninklijke Mosa that want to maintain an on-premises environment while still leveraging the benefits of the cloud for their organization. We’re extremely proud to have contributed to the future of a company with such a long and rich history as Mosa.”
The new Azure Arc-enabled infrastructure has been implemented across two locations, serving approximately 500 users. The environment consists of a stretched cluster with two nodes per site that mirror each other. This means that if one location unexpectedly goes down, no data is lost and production can continue without interruption. “That operational integrity is crucial for our factory—it needs to keep running continuously to produce our tiles,” says Hans Cobben, Manager Infrastructure & Security at Mosa. “With Azure Stack HCI, we’ve been able to make our environment significantly more reliable and resilient!”
